Okay so all who have read my former posts know that I hope to get into the great GA Tech, but while attending said school I want to go fulfill their digital media masters program. After a recent discussion with a co worker who currently attends the school made me question GA Tech's digital media masters program compared to other schools such as UGA who have a masters program in the arts in journalism and mass communication. I have always imagined that GA Tech's Digital media masters program would incorporate a heavy emphasis on technology (which would be very beneficial) where as the masters program in the arts in journalism and mass communication offered at UGA would not. Also GA Tech is a better school, but dose that title only imply to only students pursuing a career in engineering and not those who want to pursue a career in media???

Depends on the media you want. If you want to be in news or TV, UGA would probably be the better choice. If you want to make effects-heavy feature films, I believe GT is the way to go. You can see what I prefer :D

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m by no means the expert in the area, but look at GT’s program, the classes do not appear to be very technology heavy. On the other hand, Tech does offer a master’s in human-computer interface (one of the best in the world) which is very technology heavy.

Now, UGA’s degree… for a journalism department, I’m having a lot of trouble finding relevant information on their site. There’s too much information in not enough space, dead links, and lack of specifics. When listing which courses are required, it says “9 semester hours of relevant courses”, which tells me nothing (if they’re elective courses, which I can’t discern from that statement, they should say so and provide a list of possible courses).

Really, the website for Grady is embarrassingly poorly designed for any business, let alone a journalism department at a first tier school.

Weren’t you rejected from Tech and telling everyone that you want to go there and that UGA “sucks”?

thank you once again G.P.Burdell you seem to always be there to help. I recently just took a look at GA Tech’s Human-Computer Interaction masters program which is offered at GA Tech’s college of computing. I infer that this program like the digital media program that I referred to earlier also deals with the world of media. Now me someone looking to go into media, would the Human-Computer Interaction course offer a broader variety of jobs possibly open up opportunities to more stable jobs due to it’s emphasis on technology or would the digital media program be better for me? Thank you!

I looked deeper into it and apparently with the Human-Computer Interaction course I have the ability to choose a specialization in several areas one being digital media…and prior to embarking on a masters program they offer a Bachelor of Science in Computational Media at the same department.
