GA Tech vs UMich vs UIUC - chemical engineering

UIUC does not carry more weight than GT or Michigan. All three are amazing in Engineering. Cal, Catech (ranked lower because of its size), MIT and Stanford are the best, closely followed by CMU, Cornell, GT, Michigan and UIUC.

The dude has to make up his mind. I offered a vote only, you did not.

If that’s the case, I would recommend Michigan. Like I said in a previous post, in Engineering, those three schools are equal, but in most other ways, Michigan is better than the other two.

If financial part of equation, I would pick cheapest option since all are well respected engineering schools.

jim, in his first post, the OP said cost was not an important factor.

Thank you for all your help. I already decided to attend Georgia Tech. In my opinion its the best engineering school among the three.

^^^That’s fine. Since you obviously never got an invite to attend Michigan, I suppose I would settle for GT as well.

Thanks. I still prefer GT over UMich, whatever the situation is.

It’s ok lets not hassle him. GA Tech is a great engineering school.

Best of luck to you goggxjs. Please be careful around GT. It is located close to some petty rough areas. I was just on the campus a few days ago. The dorms and parking lots right off the interstate freeway looked great!

"It’s ok lets not hassle him. GA Tech is a great engineering school. "
What do you exactly mean by that? Why would you argue with me? Gatech actually is superior than the other options, regarding engineering. Rankings support my point of view. Of course, you can all have your own personal opinion, and subjective ideas. However, mine is supported by reliable rankings, which makes it more objective and accurate.

“Best of luck to you goggxjs. Please be careful around GT. It is located close to some petty rough areas. I was just on the campus a few days ago. The dorms and parking lots right off the interstate freeway looked great!”
Do you have something against Gatech? You can always express yourself more directly and with less unnecessary sarcasm.

godgxjs, there is no difference between #4 and #7. The only reason why GT is ranked slightly higher is because it is much larger (500 faculty compared to Michigan’s 300, 12,000 Engineering students compared to Michigan’s 7,500 and $250 million is research spending compared to Michigan’s $150 million).

But in terms of quality, reputation, Engineering graduate school placement and Engineering employment opportunities, GT, Michigan and UIUC are identical. However, in terms of overall academic quality, it is not quite as good as Michigan, and in terms of campus life, it is also not as pleasant or fun.

This said, from a purely Engineering point of view, GT is as good as Michigan and UIUC, so if all you care about is studying Engineering, you are perfectly fine.

“Do you have something against Gatech? You can always express yourself more directly and with less unnecessary sarcasm.”

Nothing against GT at all. I do however have a bit of a problem with someone coming to the Michigan board, saying he is obviously going to get accepted to U-M, finding out that he wasn’t accepted or waiting for his decision, and then stating that another school is better than two comparable ones he was interested in at the start of the thread. It might be better for you, which is perfectly fine, however your comments sound like sour grapes to me. Internationals, even more so than citizens, are sometimes so ridiculously hung up on rankings that they lose track of all other factors of where to attend school. I truly wish you the best of luck at GT. It is a great school for engineering and Atlanta has a plethora of things to do. It is however NOT a superior school to UIUC or Michigan. They are all peers and all three will get you to fine graduate schools, such as MIT, if you qualify.

I said " GA Tech is a great engineering school." How is that arguing against you? Please do explain…

For your information, I was admitted at UMich. However as I said before, I prefer Gatech, not only because of the reliable rankings, but also because of the extensive research I have done about my three options. Gatech in my opinion has better engineering programs that the other two, because of the faculty, research opportunities, and amazing facilities. Furthermore, it still is my personal opinion, as every person has different priorities and perspectives. That being said, I am not critizicing your point of view, only expressing mine, in my thread.

Correction, you said:"It’s ok lets not hassle him. GA Tech is a great engineering school. "
This clearly implies that you have some reason to hassle, or argue with me. Otherwise you would not have mentioned that part.

Congrats on your Michigan acceptance. What date were you admitted again?

April, dont remember the day. Doesnt matter now though, I am a Yellow Jacket!

Yes, I was telling the others not to bother you about not choosing Michigan…

You are way too hostile…
