I'm sorry for this, but I have to rant somewhere.

About 3 weeks ago, my Calc teacher gave us the biggest project of our lives (thus far): to make an AP Calculus BC textbook that could be used to teach future BC students. Now, I knew it was going to be long and difficult, and, to combat my usually procrastinating self, I started the week I got it for about an hour or two every night. Fast forward to today. The project is due Wednesday, and I am only about 5/6 of the way finished. In fact, I had to skip school today to even get this far (did about 1/8 of it in 6 hours). So far, my project is 75 pages long, each page filled to the margins with information and examples. I am expecting, with finishing touches and formatting, that the project will reach or even exceed 100 pages. Does this seem fair at all? Even in college, a thesis paper will only nearly come close to this amount. On top of that, I have to print it out at Kinko's, and it will run me upwards of $60. This is the cheapest alternative--the inevitability of buying multiple ink cartridges would cost me about $100. Honestly, I doubt he is even going to grade these based on content, most likely only based on appearance of completeness. All this for one measly test grade.

Any input or opinion on this situation?

I would have done a fraction of that…

I’m sure your teacher didn’t want a hundred pages…

I mean, I’m basically typing up the notes, and there is a checklist of what to include. It’s running me and just about everyone the same.

Wow. One, your teacher is crazy, and your parents should complain. Two, no way schoolwork should cost you ANY money, esp. at a public school. Convert it to pdf and send it to him. o.o

Well, we know he is crazy, but THIS crazy? I’m sure he won’t accept a digital copy.

^Then complain like no other; go to the principal. There is no way you should spend more than $10 on a school project.

ETA: Some other alternatives that I just thought of are… have some of your friends print pages for you/print at a parent’s workplace?

lol my parents work at the school. I’d feel bad wasting my friends’ ink.

LOL like I said… complain. there’s nothing else i can really say XD

lol why would it cost $60 / $100 to print out 100 pages

There’s no way this is really the amount of work he expected. If it’s high quality though I’m sure he’d feel bad if he gave you anything less than an A in the class.

I’m just basing the cost off of what someone else paid, though he did only print front-side…

ThisCouldBeHeavm: I sure hope so. I have an 87 right now, and assuming I got a 5 on the practice AP exam (a 95 for the final) and a 100 on this project, I have a 93 in the class.
