I was just accepted to the University of Washington Seattle! This has been my dream for a long time and I'm very excited. The only problem is that I'm from California and the out of state tuition is enormous. I read the requirements for gaining Washington state residency http://www.washington.edu/students/reg/residency/domicile.html so that I could get in state tuition (I do plan on living in Washington after college).

The hardest part of these requirements is that I would need to work 30hrs a week on top of school. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried doing this and, if so, how hard is it?

You need to reread those requirements. There is no way you will get in state tuition.

“2.Live in the state for at least 12 consecutive months as legal residents”

“4.Be financially independent for the current and prior calendar years. (Students who are not 25 years of age or older must submit their parents’ most recent tax returns).”

If mom and dad are paying your expenses, you are not financially independent.

Why would you apply to a school you cannot afford and then backpedal to try to get in-state tuition? When you applied you should have considered costs. You are not a Washington state resident who has paid taxes over the years. They will not give you in-state residency especially since you are coming in as a student.
