I was just wondering how many people that play sports are sending in game tape to the schools. It never really occurred to me until the Exeter coach e-mailed me, he said

"Admissions asked us to write an evaluation sheet on all the applicants that we want to support in the admsiions process. So, we need some more game film (DVD) from you by mid February to add to your file"

I always thought sports would be an extra things, but not one of the deciding factors. I've e-mailed a few other coaches, but haven't really gotten into the level I play at. Is it worth it to talk to all the coaches and send it game stuff....are the other athletes who aren't purely trying to get in for athletics sending in videos to all the schools?

All coaches asked me for it if it was availible(IT was on the application most of the time). I didn't have a copy around so I talked to my school and they had game film.

i just finished editing mine... im kind of half athlete half student.
i play a more individual sport so it was easier to do, but if he asks for it, and you have a game coming up, you should definitely make one. it wasnt that bad.. i just had my mom video tape me during a match. then i edited out the bad parts, and voila!

if your sport is more of just an extra-curricular on the side (you are mostly an academic applicant), i wouldn't worry about it too much.

That's awesome mpicz that the coach is showing such interest in you- definitely a plus. And I'm glad to know that coaches write evaluation sheets to put into your file! I've been in touch with the swimming coach and she seems pretty interested, so I hope that will help me. I was unsure of how much they played a role in the process before but that makes me feel a lot betttter yay.

My dad, an amateur videographer, did mine. He's making copies now, and I'll get them mailed out relatively soon. :) A 3 minute and change video of my volleyball playing, backsets, serves, and digs!

Smile: Ya I'm kind of like you, half and half. I do athletics...but I still have good grades and stuff.

....ugghh I didn't think about having to edit it lol. I know I'll send it to Exeter because they asked but I'll wait off on the other schools until I hear something I guess. Don't want to bombard them with random stuff.

yea i agree with gemmav.
sending in one vid isn't going to making them be like "oh goshhh he did this too?"
it's not like it is a 30 minute tape or anything.

Agreed go ahead and send it, if it is not 30min long they will like it :)

My dad is great friends with one of the HYP adcoms (do not want to disclose which one) and there is a saying in the admission business. "The thicker the file the thicker the applicant." It is a joke but basically don't pad your app. :)

Make sure to send along the contact information for your current coaches. When my son applied to bs, the coach showed up at one of his games and they also were in touch with his club coaches. Athletics is a very big recruiting point. Of course, your grades still need to be in line with what the school requires, but those requirements are more flexible when you are a highly desired athlete.
