<p>likewise, I was also considering writing an essay on manga, but was afraid that it would not really be understood/ well received by admissions</p>
<p>You can write a good essay on any topic if it is interesting enough / shows an interesting side of you. Of course this topic specifically is very easy to “ruin” as you could very easily come across as one dimensional or nerdy. My advice would be to proceed with caution, but to choose whichever topic helps show a new side of you.
Keep in mind I knew a guy who wrote one of his essays about video gaming, specifically why he prefers playing Dota 2 and League of Legends to the standard action/shoot-em-up type games. He ended up getting admitted EA to his top 10 dream school. </p>
