I performed well in highschool (3.7ish GPA) and got accepted into some good schools like Fordham, Syracuse, Boston University. I ultimately decided to go to my local community college to save money and figure out what I want to major in. I settled on pursuing a business degree and am on track to graduate with an associates by the end of the Fall 2020 semester.
I’m thinking about making Spring 2021 a gap semester so I can work full time, save up some more money, and transfer to a 4 year school in Fall 2021. Are there any negatives to taking a gap semester? And will it look bad to colleges that I apply to?
My mom is worried that once I stop school it will be hard for me to start again, but I am not worried about my commitment. I am a good student and know I will be prepared to go back in Fall 2021. I also wanted to know if I can apply at the end of the Fall 2020 semester for admission into the Fall 2021 semester. This way, I am already committed and have solid plans in place to return to a college after the gap semester.
