I am already set on taking a gap year volunteering with an organized year-long program, but I have one concern.
Obviously, if a student takes a gap-year before attending college, he/she is going to be at least a little older than the majority of their class. I was wondering if there was anyone who took a gap year before they attended Brown and really noticed anything uncomfortable, etc. about moving to a later class. I guess this question goes along with how prevalent is taking a gap-year before going to Brown?

I took a gap year before I came to Brown. I’m at least a year older than most of my friends here (a few people I know started college a year early, so I’m two years older than them). It makes no difference. None whatsoever. The difference between being eighteen and being nineteen is completely insignificant. The only problem you might have is all of your friends asking you to buy them alcohol when you turn 21 before them! ;)

Oh, and by the way, I’ve met plenty of people here who, for various reasons (taking a gap year, starting school late, etc) are older than the rest of my class. You will not be alone.

1 year won’t matter, i promise. i’m a 24 year old senior and you wouldnt know it
