I'm a freshman in hs( going into sophmore year) and I just learned about something called gap years. I guess it's where you take a year off between college and hs to do something neat. So my question is, has anyone else considered taking a gap year, and if so what are you considering to do? Also, if you have done a gap year could you say what you did and why?

During the year off, do you want to travel somewhere in particular?
I think I may want to do a service project of some sort, but I’m not sure. :)

I kinda want to go… everywhere? =P Seriously: seeing the world is the biggest thing on my bucket list. New Zealand is at the top of my list, though. Europe, of course, along with every other continent.

A service project would definitely be really cool, too. Somewhere in Africa or elsewhere…

I was really hoping to do a gap year in the middle east, but I’m a rising senior so that probably isn’t going to be very possible I’m still not at all sure about gap years, but I might start looking into service trips in Africa, especially the Maghreb region.

Gap year sounds cool…but I dont know where I’d find money to do a whole year of travelling. My parents wont give me the money to do that for sure!

I want to take a gap year to study in Germany.

If you look hard enough, their are scholarships for everything.

@smwhtslghtlydzed, The King’s Academy in Jordan has an intern program for gap year American High School Kids and you could learn Arabic/be in the middle east there. Currently the country is relatively safe.

I would love to take a gap year, either before or after college. maybe both
If it was before college, I’d probably use the summer prior and the fall/winter months to save and 2-3 months in Korean and an additional 2-3 months in Japan.

I checked out The King’s Academy in Jordan, it seems amazing BUT I don’t want to have to stick with something for an entire year. A quarter yes, maybe a semester, but not an entire school year… Too bad. It looks very cool!
