Ouch!
I am wondering how many of you are also waiting for Simons?

All Simons decisions already released.

I thought Simons decisions are coming in April. I didn’t hear anything yet.

I guess The decision may also depend on the research interest. My S has pretty decent stats, but he wants to do something related to bioMed eng.
Not sure if Garcia offers much.

i think that it’s not just the most outstanding students, but most outstanding NY students. I may be wrong, but I don’t think anyone non NY has gotten in from what I’m seen.

What are you talking about? For Garcia, you don’t apply to any one particular area. The program is geared towards materials science research, so they don’t accept kids based on research interests. Biomedical engineering kind of falls under materials science, but if you wrote your essays about how you want to perform social science research, you obviously applied to the wrong program. They don’t have any sort of quotas for particular scientific disciplines at Garcia because, unlike Simons, the program is geared toward one particular field.

Riffed, you’re NY right?

Lol.

Last year, 25+ participants came from outside of NY. (The most common states were CA and NJ.) As mentioned by lacrossegirl123 above, a number of students from outside of NY have already been admitted, so while the program may accept many students from NY, other states are not neglected, clearly.

BTW, if anyone learns the price of the program (including dorming/food), can you post it? The website says the program costs $1,550, but it’s unclear what room & board costs.

Now that we’re into personal attacks, lacrossegirl123, I’ve looked at your stats and I can definitively say mine are better.

And no, just because they say they’re still sifting through applications, doesn’t exonerate them from fault. If you say you’re going to do something, you should keep to your word.

Sigh… “No wonder this generation is slowly sinking in its own self delusions of grandeur”?
Makes sense to insult a whole generation based on a comment on the internet.

“My comment was a witty, a facetious and playful comment” - this is the definition of arrogant.

And yes, my stats are better.
I am a physics olympiad semifinalist, USNCO qualifer, and 3x AIME qualifier.
President, at the regional level, of a major charitable organization - not saying which so I remain anonymous- so I manage 16 school chapters
Various research awards - probably would make me recognizable, so I’m not saying which - I would say they’re slightly better than Siemens Regional Finalist, but there’s no direct comparison
I got a 237 on my PSAT, and a 2400 in the November SAT.

Look in the mirror, and your own comments, if you really want to see arrogance.

sums up my thoughts exactly, strangefruit. and anyways, lacrossegirl, nice job accidentally hacking your school’s grading site. I can see why you were accepted.

I’m a bit confused. You’ve said you were a Siemens Regional finalist this year, and that you’re from NJ. There were only three Siemens Regional finalists this year from NJ: Allen Lee, Millburn High School, Millburn; Jason Lee, Millburn High School, Millburn; Aashna Mago, The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville

Clearly, the first two are boys, and a quick Google of the third person’s name reveals that she is graduating high school in 2013.

What does this all mean?

All this is stupid…who honestly cares? Stats, shmatz. Lets just be happy for the people who got in, and for those who didn’t, you are still ridiculous and will go to great schools and be successful. This program is so fantastically minor in your life, as are other people’s stats. No reason to argue over the internet. For all we know, none of these people are telling the truth about their acceptances, etc.

I got on acceptance email on Monday and before someone one asks, yes, I am from NY. Does anyone want to make a facebook group for Garcia 2013?

Also, for all those who are still waiting (including one of my best friends) please understand that this is not reflective of the quality of your application. My sister attended the program in past years, and from her I know that Garcia has never been the most organized program. Dr. Rafailovich and Dr. Falabella are just trying to give each application the attention it deserves.

You make it?

Okay, the Facebook group is Garcia MRSEC 2013. Looking forward to getting to know you all :)

Gah, can’t find it. Facebook search fail.

I wish they would update their website.

@mickyleib, thanks for sharing the info!
In this world it seems we tend to be tough hearted for people to respect us .
You appear to have a tender/humble heart to others. you will be successful. Congrats to your acceptance!
