Could someone send a link? Nothing comes up when I query the title.
no, but there is no rejection either
Wait what do you mean there is no rejection? Also I did not get an email yet and I do not know if I will get one.
I can’t say if all the acceptances have come out yet, but from the evidence that no rejections have been sent out, there’s a chance that everybody who has not received a decision yet is on a “waitlist” of sorts. Because of COVID, I’m sure Garcia is being extra cautious this year.
Also, for reference, the deadline to commit is May 10th, so that could be when the second wave comes out.
I just emailed the person we had to send the applications out to and asked if our lack of an email meant we were rejected from the program.
@kosully Could you let us know their response when you get it? Thanks.
I received an email on Tuesday Apr 28 about my acceptance. It was from Michael Cuiffo. Also can the admin of the facebook group please accept my request?
Hey @ildisney2319, could you paste the acceptance email in this thread?
@hillaryswin
Dear Garcia Applicant,
On behalf of the Garcia Research Program, we would like to congratulate you on your acceptance into our program for the 2020-21 season.
Please accept our apologies for this late reply, but it was difficult for us to access our files due to the closure of the university and the unusually large number of applications we received this year, as other programs have closed.
Please note that as research programs reopen at the university, only faculty and staff will be able to work in the laboratories. High school and undergraduate students will not be allowed on campus this summer, but they will be given full access to university libraries, software, and other online resources. We will therefore run the Garcia program, and try to accomplish as much as possible within the limits of the situation. Lectures and tutorials will be conducted online via Zoom. We will try to simulate the laboratory experience as best as we can, via safety training delivered by EH&S personnel, virtual tours of laboratory facilities at Stony Brook and Brookhaven National Laboratory, and “hands on” training exercises where the faculty and staff are the “hands”. Our greatest challenge will be getting the students to interact with each other and get to know our staff. Students will present journal club to smaller groups, as well as conduct practice experiments under the leadership of different staff members to determine how this dynamic will work. Special emphasis will be placed on collaborative work and the ability to make original contributions within a team setting. To maintain the Garcia social fabric, we will experiment with games and a Zoom orchestra ensemble.
Finally, students will be able to design or select their own research projects, working in small two to four member groups. Under the guidance of Garcia faculty and staff, who will serve as the “hands”, students will be encouraged to design experiments and participate remotely in data acquisition. Our goal will be to produce original research that can be submitted for presentation to peer reviewed publications and national conferences ……were we will hopefully meet in person in the future!
If you accept the invitation to participate in the Program, we will be sending out shortly a copy of the Garcia Program Informational Packet and Release Forms for you to review with your family. In consideration of the numerous students on our wait list, we kindly request that you notify us before May 10, 2020 if you will be attending the program or are declining our invitation, especially given the unusual circumstances under which we must work this year. Please reply by email to GarciaResearch@stonybrook.edu , with Invitation2020 in the subject line.
Again, congratulations on your acceptance to the Garcia Research Program 2020;
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Cuiffo

How much does the program cost this year? I need to decide by May 6 (ahaha) because I have to decide between this and something else, and cost is pretty important.
@Bluebird122 Is that the entire email?
Has anyone received the “Garcia Program Informational Packet and Release Forms”, after your acceptance of Garcia’s Invitation 2020?
Has anybody been rejected? Still waiting for the decision…
I don’t think they’ll send out rejections until after May 10th
Can I get accepted to the fb group? And does anyone who has committed know how much it costs?
@ildisney2319, @Bluebird122 or anyone who has been accepted, was your name mentioned anywhere in your acceptance email?
The acceptance email did not mention individual name.
Has anyone who committed gotten a confirmation yet?
Have you got any reply for your email?
