Thanks GA2012mom!

Do you remember the exact date you daughter was notified of her finalist status? I think we are notified around the 8th but I’m not sure.

^

Sorry, no. It was 3 years ago. At my age I’m lucky to remember what I had for lunch yesterday!

Edit: Regarding the deposit, I would think if you were a scholar that you could fax something to admissions or FA confirming that and they may waive it, it couldn’t hurt to ask. I know at my D’s school, there is a designated person in FA that handles all the Gates scholars. You could call your school and see if they have somebody as well.

Oh yeah you might be right! I just looked at the past years, and most were notified the 2nd monday at around 9 PM. Wow, I’m not prepared for this haha.

But yeah, I applied to Emory as well (It’s an AWESOME school), and I’ve lived in the South so I’d like to stick to my roots and either go there or Vanderbilt if I can get enough $$!

how much do you get if you win the scholarship? and if they pay for your work study, does that mean you don’t have to work study?

What happens if you are selected as a finalist but you find out you’re not eligible for a Pell Grant? Is it absolutely necessary to be eligible for a Pell Grant to get the scholarship?

I think it is. That’s how they determin financial need.

I applied for the gates scholarship like everyone else and worked really hard on it. When I completed the fafsa it told me I was eligible for the pell grant. However, a week ago when my parents inputted their tax info for 2010, it told me I was no longer eligible. If I get an e-mail saying I was selected as a semi-finalist but no longer qualify… lets just say I am going to be really mad :(

Just have faith and see what’s going to happen. According to past threads we should be notified tomorrow or tuesday.

I found this, but I’m not sure if its right.

The Maximum EFC Cutoff Threshold

Once your EFC is calculated, it is then compared with a standardized eligibility schedule in order to determine whether or not you may become eligible for a Pell Grant. Each year a maximum EFC cutoff threshold is established in regard to the Pell Grant program, with the current amount set at 5,273 for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years.

This is the absolute maximum EFC value that you can exhibit if you want to become eligible for the Pell Grant, and the lower your EFC is below this threshold, the better your chances are at receiving the maximum Pell Grant amount.

This is because your financial need will be higher as your EFC value falls according to the equation that was provided earlier. The Pell Grant is primarily based upon need, and it is therefore in your best interest to have a low EFC, and a high CoA, if you want to maximize your chances at qualifying for the Pell Grant.

Im so glad I found this! I am so excited. I had no idea their was a semi-finalist round. This whole time I was waiting for April finalist notifications! Now I won’t be able to sleep this week!

I really hope they tell us tomorrow! Good luck everyone!!

Good luck. I can’t study that well because my mind is so occupied with the scholarship.

Well whoever finds out first, please post immediately! Lol

I totally agree, the same thing happened to me!
I spent a lot of time applying for this scholarship, before I knew if I was eligible for a Pell Grant or not. After submitting my application I found out I wasn’t eligible for it, so if I am a semi-finalist and then am no longer qualified I will be really mad!
But hey good luck everyone, we should be receiving a notification any time now!

When it tells you that you are elligible for the pell grant does it tell you an amount also?

Yes, it gives you the amount you qualify for.

Today might be the best day if my life… If I become a semi finalist.

wow I am so nervous… anyone know if its today or tomorrow? (I’ve heard both)

There’s no set day. Anytime between today to the end of the week. For some people even next week!

tears No email from GMS yet! I am so nervous! Please do share the good news with us if any of you guys received an email from them already D:
