Gates Millenium Scholarship 2011-2012

I’m not concerned about pell grant eligibility and the selectiveness of this scholarship because I believe no matter how competitive something maybe never doubt my ability to be selected for whatever it may be. If it’s meant for me to be a gates scholar, in April I will be a scholar;)

I agree with ambitious93! …if its meant to be its meant to be…

Hey you guys! I called GMS and they said that they have received 5/5 of my documents, and a letter was sent TODAY!! Gosh, I hope I am a scholar. I have been praying every night. I hope they send letters for scholars first and not rejection letters first D: I AM SO NERVOUS!

@cyang213: The order for letters really isn’t specific. During the same week one of my friends got the scholarship, another friend was rejected. Just know that the notification comes around mid to late April. =]

You’re not going to find out if you’re a scholar till late April. The letter they were discussing was related to your notification of becoming a finalist.

They said: A letter has been sent to you on March 20th about your nominee status. We have received 5 of your documents.
Are they just sending me a form of all the documents they received from me or are they sending out scholars/rejection letters?

You guys should try calling too! Did they say the same thing to you? Something about sending you a letter…?

Note it says “nominee status”, not “finalist status”. Scholar decisions don’t come out until April, as many people have stated.

how do i find out about my Gates ID number? This one is different from the registration…crap i want to check my status :(

newaccountt

It’s the same id number that you had when you were first applying. Your zip code + the last four numbers of your telephone number

Does anyone know how many finalists there are? I am just curious about my odds. I think 200 are given to Native American students, but I wish there was a place so that I could learn statistics on how many are given out to those that are finalists.

@Taymayrocks:
300 african-american
300 Hispanic American
200- Asian Pacific Islander American
200- American Indian/Alaska Native

Those are the stats I’ve heard

5/5… goodluck to all finalists… I hope that Bill and Melinda Gates decide to give the scholarship to all the finalists. Such an ideal situation would be amazin and allow us all to be relieved of the great tension. I hope you all get it, and there are great things to come for all the people who tried for the scholship, it shows dedication, motivation, and maturity. Congratz all and hope you all are success full in life.

urrrgh !im a finalist but im soo nervous !i wonder do they pay for pharmacy school.

I dont think they cover pharmacy school, only graduate school.

4/5, with no school profile. What in tarnation is a school profile, and why didn’t my school send one?

My school didn’t have a school profile so I just made one along with some information my school principal gave me to put in about the school and my counselor sent everything off
A school profile is basically all about the school…awards, grading scale, amount of students, awards received etc.

I know that they’ve gotten my stuff I’ve sent them because I sent it signed for but the phone still says they haven’t received anything is that a bad sign?

This is crazy. But… Congratulations to all who made it through the 1st phase!! I haven’t received anything yet. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, but I’m optimistic. All who were rejected already, I know it hurt, but look at it as something to make you stronger rather than something to get you down. Use rejection as motivation to be better prepared for tomorrow!!!

They said if you haven’t received anything call GMS and let them know and they’ll send a letter to you whether it be rejection or finalist status.
