Do you actually have to be nominated? Or can you just ask a teacher to be your “nominator”?

Can an academic adviser from wan after school program be both the nominator and recommender?

I am so stuck on my essays…I have only three written and almost done with the fourth one (the one about short term and long term goals) and my mom is breathing down my neck to get the application done right now…

My sister wrote them all at the deadline day and she was accepted…All I need is the scholarship for a Masters, the schools I’m interested in should give me enough financial aid…I would think studying for these SAT II’s are more important right now…

I was wondering if a school psychologist could be your recommender?

you’re right I’m here writing the essays when I have the SAT coming up next month. :

ok, so i’ve been going to the same school since my freshman year and have aced every class since. my gpa was never lower than a 4.0 BUT my school has never offered AP classes. it’s a small private christian school, just recently accredited (from guam, btw). when i say small i mean not even big enough to have clubs or an honors program. this is the only part i’m worried about because my academics section is nowhere NEAR the prestige of most GMS scholars i’ve heard of :/

I’m Middle Eastern / Arab. Am I eligible to to apply? I always have an issue with this race lol I’m also a U.S. citizen if you’re wondering.

Peachfuzz, the gates website has really specific details about who qualify.

For self-reporting grades-- As an example, if I took AP US History junior year for both semesters…

Would I just put AP US History, then select “semester” (because we use a semster system), then my grade in the class?

Or would I put AP US History, then “year”, then my grade…

Or would I put two AP US History sections and then my grades for each semester?

I hope this doesn’t sound too confusing/idiotic. Thanks.

Atelophobia, I think that if both of the semesters grades are the same, then list the course as a yearlong course.

Anyhow I starte writing my first gates essay today!! With two months left, I will have to crank out an essay each week… This is so stressful especially since these essays are a thousand words apiece

i have two essays done…
two months left
my brother is a gates scholar.
no pressure
i’m praying to God he’ll help me overcome
& the rest of us who really need this .

I had the same question because I also go to a private christian school on a small island and my school isn’t even accredited yet I think…Like my class is the first graduating class at my school and we don’t have honors, A.P classes, clubs and we can’t even choose our classes… Then I see old Gates millennium threads and all these things applicants have and I feel so intimidated it’s kind of depressing even but going to go for it :D

I have some big questions guys…Please help me. How important is “leadership” for this scholarship? Please compare it to Community Service, Grades, and the essays. Is it more important than those 3?
For my high school careers, the only leadership position that I ever been to was being the Vice-Captain of Chess Club. I’ve been in numerous amount of activities, but I just either a regular member or an important member, but not a “leadership role” such as president or captain of clubs.
Does the word “leadership” mean “high positions”? Do I have to have a “role” or a “name” to be counted as leadership?
Thank you every much guys.

I’m applying…nearly finished. Just editing one last essay as we speak and then I shall submit! What is the cutoff for family income?

Also! I got a full scholarship to attend a summer program at Brown University this past summer—does that count as an award?

Also: does Honor Roll count as an academic award?

If any past GMS Scholars would like to offer help or if any current GMS applicants seek it, please join the facebook page :)

Hey guys! Ive a question about the Gate Millenium Scholarship I started the application and it asks about being a citizen which I am not! I applied for my green card and its in process so do you think i can still apply cuz i have a social security and I 94.? Second I have 2.89 GPA? Am I still eligible? but I’ve lots volunteer hours and community service and clubs! My parents both don’t have a job and our income is zero so do you think I’ve a shot? please.

Sorry dude, but you need at least a 3.3 GPA to be eligible, :

Hi everyone! Does anyone know if the answers to the questions are all supposed to be full-blown 500 word essays, or are they more like short-answers and/or paragraphs?

I’m 1/4 Hispanic and 1/4 Filipino, can I still apply to the Gates millennium scholarship?
