My son got a letter yesterday from APIASF. I was just wondering, if his EFC is 0 and his GPA is 4.2 with a lot of community and leadership but he didn’t get this scholarship. It was a sad day for our family. Can anyone explain why? I appreciate.
Is there anyone from Chicago who heard back yet because I didnt hear back yet . i am very nervous about it.
11111: So sorry to hear the news. GPA doesn’t figure that prominently in the decision (so long as you are above the cut off). They put emphasis on leadership, experience and circumstances. There are people out there who have done some incredible things and the bar is extremely high. With outstanding credentials like your son has, he should be able to get some great financial aid offers.
Postman came and nothing. Living overseas, I imagine it could be a couple weeks until I hear. Dropped an email to GMS Office last Thursday and they didn’t even acknowledge it. Guess those rumors of decisions being emailed were just that…rumors. Really bummed. How hard is it to send a note that simply says, “no”? Glad I have a decent financial aid package.

Gates scholar from Northern California! I received an email at about 1:30 Pm today and also a large envelope in the mail today. I don’t know how I would have paid for school without this…I am beyond grateful…

I’m from the west coast and I’m asian (Vietnamese)! Just got an email today and I’m overjoyed.

My NJ Hispanic Finalist was converted to a NJ Gates Scholarship WINNER yesterday! So happy! He worked so hard for this and it is well deserved and much needed!
