<p>Sasinib--Yes, this is true. Gates covers loans and work-study as part of your "self-help" portion. Here are the exact items they cover:</p>
<ul>
<li>Work Study (Federal and Campus)</li>
<li>Federal Perkins Loan</li>
<li>Federal Stafford Loans (Subsidized and Unsubsidized)</li>
<li>Federal PLUS Loan</li>
<li>Health Professional Loans</li>
<li>Alternative/Private Loans</li>
<li>Unmet Need</li>
</ul>
<p>It's good to know exactly what the GMS covers as you'd be surprised at how little many Gates Scholars actually know about the scholarship. I've met some Gates Scholars who had no idea and currently have loans, so it's best to find out as much as you can about what it'll cover.</p>
<p>I have been going through the Gates Millennium website and it looks like it is only for minorities. Is there are a section that they give money to poor white folks? My freaking EFC is zero (single mom, 4 kids)!</p>

<p>I called the 1-877-690-4677 number at around 10am pacific time and spoke to a woman who told me--very curtly, i might add--that i would be notified "sometime in march," those were her exact words. i asked to clarify whether it would be early march or late march and she said "sometime in march". </p>
<p>So I will be on the edge for 27 more days. :(</p>

<p>^^ its the regular mail that you get in your mail box everyday. things come slower by mail as opposed to online or through email so ppl refer to it as snail mail</p>
