I hope so flowerjg08... I'm hoping all of us CCer's hear from them, if nothing but to end the suspense and drama!

I agree with you :) I just want to know...I'm so nervous!

i really hope so as well..

anyone receive notification yesterday and if so what race are u from

Just got home and the GMS papers were waiting for me in my mailbox. Just a normal envelope.

Quick question, since my school uses a weighted system, does GMS have a specific scale we should use to convert? My GPA is around a 4.8 weighted and probably a 4 unweighted. I'm safely above the 3.3 minimum but my GC and I weren't sure and the forms just ask for an UW GPA.

Good luck to all those still waiting.

There was no scale included in my materials. I would just estimate. At my school we use the 100 scale so estimating is what my counselor did.

wait, should my Unweighted GPA be a 4.0 if I don't have any B's?

i got my finalist notice though email on tuesday...im from washington and im native american

Hamman,

It depends. If there are pluses/minuses attached to your grades then that needs to be taken into consideration. But if you have a straight A average and there is not +/- in your school, then yes your GPA would be 4.0

I would recommend two things:
1. Use the Questbridge Table to calculate your own UW GPA
2. Do NOT rely solely on the GC to do this, especially if they do not have experience with GMSP. You cannot afford to have your GC ruining your chances because of their incompetence.

National College Match Program: FAQ

See Question 11. How do I calculate my unweighted GPA?

An unweighted grade point average (GPA) is reported on a 4.0 scale. If your school does not provide you with an unweighted GPA, you will need to calculate it using the following table:

Grade Points 100 Point Scale Letter Grade

4.0 93-100 A or A+
3.7 90-92 A-
3.3 87-89 B+
3.0 83-86 B
2.7 80-82 B-
2.3 77-79 C+
2.0 73-76 C
1.7 70-72 C-
1.3 67-69 D+
1.0 63-66 D

To use this table, find the grade point value of your final grade in a class (for example, a B+ is a 3.3) and multiply it by the total number of units the class is worth (for a five unit class, multiply 5 x 3.3). Do this for each of your courses in grades 9-12, adding the grade points as you go. Then, divide by the total number of units you have taken. For example, if you have taken only three classes, each worth five units, and you have received an A, B+, and A-, calculate your GPA as follows:

(5 x 4.0) + (5 x 3.3) + (5 x 3.7) = 55, 55/15 =3.67, or a 3.7 GPA (you can round to the nearest tenth for this application).

I just got the GMS letter in the mail....
Funny thing is that it was dated March 10, 2008...
I'm from Texas...

does being a Finalist guarantee anything at all?

Is there anyone still awaiting notification? I was wondering because I have not received anything yet.

No, being a finalists doesn't mean you've won anything.

It just means you've moved on.

Hey....Gates ask about a school profile...what should be in it...my school doesn't have a profile...usually...for scholarship, i just let me GC fill out a form that the scholarship ask for. So, do I need tell me GC to write one just for this, or can I just skip it?

I don't think you should skip it.

is anyone here from Kansas?

From the GMSP website:

"In early March, Nominees will be notified if they are selected as a Finalist or not selected."

So everyone gets notified I'm guessing? If you guys got notified, why didn't the rest of us? I thought only the 2nd-round winners get notified.

This is a little off-handed question. But I didn't want to make another thread entitled "gates mil. scholarship...".

I tried to look at their faq's and they said that seniors should apply (in HS). Does this mean that freshmen (in college) cannot apply? What if you were rejected the first time? Can you reapply the next year?

Well I haven't received anything yet...is there anyone else that hasn't received anything?

I'm pretty sure that current college students are ineligible.

So, apply Senior year and that's your only chance.
