but either way they said that both finalists AND people who are not finalists would eventually be notified.

good luck to them for contacting 60000 people....

Have you tried calling them back restmychemistry??? Or have you received anything??

lol yeah i called them and the coordinator told me that notifications are being sent on a rolling basis. she said people should be notified by the first week of april.

i guess that's it. i mean i knew that there was a discrepancy in my application (my teacher accidentally wrote my ssn wrong) and i had to travel through endless bureaucratic ranks to correct the error but still...

anyway all that can be done is to wait.

i've decided to put it out of my mind at this point. if again the first week of april comes and nothing happens, i'll worry then (but we all will have the distraction of college decision to occupy our minds)

i now plan on enjoying the next four days of my spring break (while struggling through the piles of philosophy homework i have conveniently pushed aside) :P

as for you flowerjg, and everyone else i hope you hear something (and good news too) :)

Did any finalist hear from the Gates yet?

well....my letter finally came....

KILL BILL

:-(

mine came, too.

:-(

You didn't get it???

What did the letter say??

idk exactly....i was so outraged that I tore it up...
but I know it was very short, and the end of it basically said "look for other ways to get money, cuz you aint gettin none of ours, SUCKAAAA!"

wow did they word it that way??? I'm sorry...I thought maybe it said that you did get it.
How about yours ctrkg???

I'm a finalist!!!! Thank God!

Oh, and i've known for about 2 weeks now. I got an email first, then letter, then a call yesterday.

Congratulations!!!!

congratulations y'all, I just finished faxing everything in today. Now for the waiting game...again

lizzie don't worry about it. many ivy league schools offer full ride scholarships for students who make less than 60000 a year. also, a number of esteemed schools have eliminated loans from their tuition.

your smart. i'm sure you'll be able to exercise these opportunities.

Congrats to those who found out, and sorry to those who didn't get good news! Best of luck in the scholarship hunt!

I faxed some of my stuff and my school mailed the transcript, profile, etc. My school prints the profile on this awkwardly sized paper, I think it's 8.5 by 14, so my GC was like, uhh...we better mail this!

I got a phone call reminding me to send stuff in too. GMS is pretty courteous about reminding applicants. They called me to remind me about the scholarship deadline way back in early December (? I think) too. I was surprised.

Thanks RestMyChemistry!
I guess it's time to move on!

Aww guys! Don't worry about not getting this scholarship. It's really not that bad. 60000 kids applied! That's even worse than getting in Harvard!!!
And even if you get in Harvard, you're pretty much on full ride.
So really no worries! You gave your best and that's all you could hope for!

Dear Applicant

Selecting the 1000 scholarship recipients is our greatest challenge each year. This year the Gates Millennium Scholars Program attracted over 13000 exceptional nominees, which led to an especially competitive pool of candidates. We regret to inform you that you were not selected as one of the scholarship recipients for the 2008-2009 academic year. Our decision in no way diminishes your many personal and academic accomplishments.

You may wish to explore other scholarship resources on the following websites

SAT 1190
