i really wanna know if i got it or not...ummm...im the ONLY finalist at my school...there were many ppl who applied but they weren't finalists...i agree w/ u mosvalublpelayo, im really proud to be a finalist at my school. wow, ur class size is really small compared to mine...we have 1042 kids in our graduating class!! wow wow!!

hmm im the only finalist at my school, but then again im the only one that applied. i wonder if that makes my chances better or worse.

@loosinduh --

me too, I was the only one that applied, and the only finalist.... hopefully that makes my chances better :D

I am the only finalist at my school as well. There were about 5 people that applied out of a class of 650-something. I felt really bad for my friend who did not get a chance to submit his application due to the site crash at the first deadline (he thought it went through but apparently it did not). We seem to have a winner or two every year. Last year it was an Asian winner, the year before was two hispanic winner.

Last year my school had its first winner - Hispanic. Hopefully I get to become our second winner

i don't think my school ever had a winner...idk...i should ask my counselor...well, even if we do have winners, i hope im one of them!

two years in a row we have had one winner and this time there are 4 finalists one AA me, and 3 Asians

Last year there was one winner at my school, Asian. This year there are 3 finalists - Hispanic, African American, Asian.

on my last post the last words were that I hope we all become finalists, i meant to say scholars

Also, I need to say that one of the twins that we have as finalists, his recommender did not manage to turn in his verification form in, he was really down specially when he heard his brother had received the long awaited and envied email. A couple minutes later he also received the email, you cant even imagine how happy he was to still have been given a chance even if the application was incomplete.

mosvalublpelayo,
i honestly dont think the recommender and nominator forms were given much weight in the decision process.. i didnt think i had any chances as my recommender wrote roughly a paragraph for each question.. the answers were very generic, nutin great..yet i was a finalist..

Well, I guess, His nominator did indeed write a complete letter and so did the rest of the recommenders and nominators for the rest of us. My small school has students with a great network of people that are happy to reccomend us for anything. It turned out great however that they do not look at the recommendations that greatly since he was very down about one of his letter not being in, but now that over all the five of u need to do now is wait for thefinal answers, and hoping that we receive them this week

yea....i spoke with a GMS lady today to chek if they had received my documents and i also asked her if they gave out final decisions as soon as they evaluated all the materials..she said that they gave ALL final decision in april 15 or around those days...but a whole bunch of ppl hav told me otherwise...do u kno about anyone who has won the scholarship already

I haven't gotten anything in the mail as of yesterday. I have to go downstairs and check the mail in a little while though to see if I have been notified yet. I sent in all of my paperwork the day after I received finalist notification so perhaps I will hear back soon.

I do not know of anyone who has received any notice for thi year, but last year the two that received the scholarship sent in all the information within days of the email. They also received their notice as scholars either on the first week of April or the last week of March, so hoping that we get it this week. Also you have to keep in mind that it depends on which fund you are dealing with, the first ones to receive the notice for finalists from my school were from HSF, the next day was fron UNCF, and 2 days later was the notice from apiasf, we do not have any native american applicants. So maybe the different funds have their own dates, as long as they all meet the april deadline

@mosvalublepelayo - True. I'm Hispanic, and was one of the first on CC to be notified, and I got my papers together quickly so I could send it in the next day. So hopefully HSF will continue to be speedy with their notification.

I wonder, since there are 1000 scholars, are they equally distributed between the groups of does one ethnicity end up having more scholars than others?

All we have to do now i wait, we sent in all documentation, and now we wait, and its the hardest part im getting anxious

I bet that there is an equal distribution of scholars, 250 per fund

i wish they would let me know something.....rejected or otherwise geez

i just recieved the packet.. i am a gates scholar
