Gates Millennium Scholarship - 2008-2009

tiff, i asked u this b4 but u never said anything about it, its just bugging me...how many ap classes r offered at ur school out of which u take 8, right??
i don't know for some reason i think im not gonna get it...aahhh...i want to, though

im from georgia

wow.. um when i applied i took all ap classes offered at the school i was at at that time but now that im at my old school there are maybe 11 ap's offered..

there are 11 ap's offered..
i had a friend get it last year that took no ap' s

ur friend who took no ap's got gates scholarship? well, he must have taken IB classes then. I just want to know if i won or not...what about ur community service and leadership? how much of each do u have?

i dont think there was any offered at their schools...
im sure they judge it by your individual relationship

i had filled out every box with leadership and community service.. i love doing that and that is what i excelled at

i would say dont worry.. and the thing was was to get your fax in asap

Yeah, I hope they do take each person's individual and personal circumstances into careful consideration.

thats good! i filled every box also but...idk if i'll get it or not.
oh well, i just have to wait, can't do anything else but wait patiently...

Wow Tiffany, you must have such strong credentials in order to get notification so soon! When did you fax in your information?

yeah.. i thinkt that if you worked hard on your app u will be fine.. i know loads who just turned in crap

The number of AP's taken is not going to make or break your application.

Especially since GMS is a scholarship that caters to those with promising potential & high financial need, not just merit. GMS targets a specific group of students that can have a wide-range of academic backgrounds. I mean, the GPA requirement is 3.5, so it's not like you need to be the perfect 2400, Valedictorian, Harvard-bound student.

I imagine the transcript was just to verify that you actually have the academic record you talked about on the application. And the school profile is to shed light on the academic environment and opportunities your school offers. Again, if you took 4 AP and you school only offers 6, you're not going to be penalized.

If you didn't take any AP's, it's not like GMS is going to tear up your application.

i faxed off march 14th in the morning
letter was dated march 24th

I Agree With Speakeasy

Speak_Easy - They do consider other aspects other than academic. But as you can see, Tiffany took 8 AP and 2 IB courses and she is the FIRST one on CC to be notified!

She also turned in her stuff early & GMS is processed by several different organizations (depending on race), and I know that African-Americans were notified first for the finalist when those came out.

btw, I've taken 9 AP's, and I'm telling you, it doesn't matter.

tiffany how spread out are ur ap classes? i mean, how many did u take freshmen yr, sophmore, junior and senior yr?

The Hispanic Scholarship Fund notified their candidates first I think.

yeah HSF was first for finalists, second was UNCF, and third was the asian fund, we dont have any native americans though
