Does anyone know if an interview is involved in the process?

nope. no interview.

Awesome. Oh man I'm so nervous. My college decision is pretty much determined by whether I get Gates or not.

^Where are you trying to go?

dubbly:
u penn or carnegie mellon. you?

cool! i got accepted into a couple of schools already. my top two choices are University of Miami and USC. I got accepted into Miami and I won't hear back from USC until March or April. It's gonna be a tough decision if I actually get into USC.

........plus, there's that whole "paying for it" part. lol!

haha, yeaa. I can't wait to find out if I'm a finalist or not...that would be exciting! Soo nervouss! I only got into one school (UMASS AMHERST) not really going there, but hey glad to get in my safety (lol). Good Luck everybody! :)

oh nice i applied to UM also, and got accepted :)
oh and okay so there are finalists and then recipients? and a total of 1000 recipients so about how many finalists do they choose?

Do you absolutely need to be pell grant elligible to get the scholarship or is it just to give them idea what your financial situation is to help decide if you are elligible for the scholarship??

and what is the EFC needed to be pell gran elligible?

well, its official im not getting ne scholarship for college...ive applied to over 14, and i havent even gotten one, it ****es me off soo much, whatevs, i wud b soo happy if i got this one! : ) sux i didnt get the ron brown, kinda predicted that : (

superwoman: I'm sorry. =( Try to stay positive, you never know.

ricey: I'm not sure how many finalists there are. It would be interesting to find out though. =P

supernova.star: yeah, you have to be eligible for the pell grant in order to get the Gates. I'm not exactly sure what your EFC has to be in order to be eligible for the pell grant. Last year it was around 4000, I think? This year it's supposed to increase a little bit. We'll find out later.

You do have to be Pell grant eligible. Last year the maximum EFC for Pell grant was 4041. The amount has not been announced yet for this year.

Last year the Pell grant maximum went up from $4310 to $4731 but the maximum EFC for eligibility actually went down from 4110 to 4041.

thanks! but im so not pell grant eligible, wow, i would have been last year, well i guess those essays were a waste of time! uhh! good luck to everyone else!

I couldnt turn in the KFC Scholarship today on time (after 2 hours of waiting by the computer just to log in!). Starting to think im going to have to go to cheap instate school haha. not that those are bad XD.... 0 EFC has not been nice to me so far so i only hope and pray....

are you freakin serious.

omgomgomgomg

my EFC isn't official yet, but it saids 5770. what about the people who barely don't make the elligibility? i feel bad for me, but i feel worse for them.

UGH i hate life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

=/
i was told you have to be pell grant eligible or else you won't be assessed for the scholarship

i'm sorry to those who aren't pell grant eligible. =(

I found out after I submitted my app that I'm not Pell Grant Eligible. ): We're barely over, and it's really sad because I spent so much time on the essays. Still, I wish everyone else lots of luck!
