I did not apply for SHC as a first-year this past year. However, I am considering applying for SHC for entry in my sophomore year. I know Gateways don't receive the $3500, but are you considered for a greater amount of $ because you are an honors student? Also, what are your odds at acceptance into SHC if you are a freshman with at least a 3.7 GPA. I feel that I can handle this GPA since I did very well in high school.

Yes, being in the SHC, at any level, makes you eligible for additional $$ thru colleges/Depts. I am not sure of the chances. But be sure to make good faculty contacts within your major during your first year and get involved in research to some capacity (it shows your capability to complete an honors thesis).
