How liberal is BC? will a gay student who is otherwise just an average kid with great grades feel part of the school or will it be hard to fit in?

i think it really depends on who you decide to hang out with. the atmosphere is pretty liberal... the only aspect you want to watch out for is the fact that it's a jesuit school. for example, last year, there was a gay dance planned and the administration wouldn't let it happen.

Other than that, there's a GLBT board in McElroy...? I don't know, the people I hang out with would have no problem whatsoever!

Like how Gay? Just Kidding. Most students here (80-85%)are understanding and accepting of alternative lifestyle. It's the adminstrators who are some time conservative. Professors are very liberal (as with any higher education institution).

I'm sure it disturbed the administration to have to cancel that dance. Jesuits are about as openminded as they could get. But they're still Catholic, and to put an OFFICIAL stamp of approval on a gay dance would put them in an awkward position with the Church. My guess is they would have loved it if the dance had somehow gone on, but without the official approval of the administration. It's just like underage beer drinking--they have to have an official stand against it, but I'm sure none of the administrators can't get to sleep at night because a sophomore downed a couple Buds.

i'm not gay, but i'm very pro gay and abortion rights. I'm an involved catholic but I just don't follow the party line on some things. I'm interested in BC because it's a great school, great location, etc but I'd like to know if its the type of place where I'll come to terms with my catholic identity or will just feel ever more alienated by the conservative parts of the church.
