I hope to be attending UCF in the fall of 2012, but I have some questions. Is there much of a "gay scence" there? Also, are the students generally open about it, or will there be lots of issues with roomates and things like that?

we generally do not like gay people at UCF. we find the to be a little annoying and try to alienate them as much as possible.

Tons of gay people living and working in Orlando. TONS. It is probably more common in this area than in most of the country.

and I guess it would depend on who you get for roommates, but that would be with anything really.

1: If that’s sarcasm, then it’s not only in bad taste, but your delivery also needs work.
2: If that’s not sarcasm, you are a horrible person.
3: You don’t even go to UCF.
4: You didn’t answer the question.

OMGGG Friggin ROFL @ Hurricane Kid’s # 3 !
" You don’t even go to UCF"
LMAO! Reminds me of mean girls: " she doesn’t even go here!"

Haha. Yeah, I’m not technically “out” yet and I want to in college so I can actually live my life the way I want, but I don’t want to feel like I am being “alienated”. And I don’t find myself any more annoying then the stereotypical loud ass, homophobic frat guys, so what’s the difference?

@miamifins, lol…politically incorrect sarcasm, my fave.

For the OP, there are a lot of gay students at ucf. They don’t wear “hey! I’m gay!” hats (joke-_-) but it’s a large school and there’s a scene or club for pretty much every group. The school also has a club for LGBT issues/Gay Straight Alliance, etc.; check the clubs page to be sure though. No one really bothers anyone here, far as I know. I know there are homophobic students here but no one cares about them since more accepting students most likely outnumber them. and it’s 2011…

The Rosen campus and surrounding area (W.Orlando) seem to have a lot more openly gay (male) students/employees than I’ve seen here on main campus.

Not sure what your gender is, but with roommates, it’s a toss up. I used to think girls would be more accepting of a lesbian roommate than guys with a gay one but in living on campus I’d say that regardless of gender you won’t know for sure until you meet them. It’s a diverse campus and if you run into any issues with roommies there’s help for that. So you’ll be fine when you get here:)

Thanks purple stuff! And yeah, Im a guy. And if there is a problem with roomate(s), Id be able to fix it? I dont mind if someone is uncomfortable with it and switches rooms because I dont want to make somebody uncomfortable. I just dont want to get a roomate and be stuck with no way out all year if something does come up.

I can’t speak for anyone else here, but I love gay guys LOOOL. They’re fun. And purplestuff is right, this isn’t high school anymore. No one here is gonna care if you’re gay or not. If you’re gay, then you’re gay. There’s all kinds of people at this school, so feel free to be ‘you’ as much as you want because you’ll eventually find a group that you’ll fit in.

UCF is accepting of gay and lesbian students. I know it was already mentioned but UCF has a very active LGTB club. I have a lot of gay friends that are going to UCF. The people at UCF are generally nice.

Hope you get accepted. It’s an awesome university :)

You shouldn’t have any problems at UCF. There are always irrationally homophobic people in this thread, such as the one poster below, but to get a good idea of who the homophobes are, just visit a meeting or two of the UCF Young Republicans. That’s where you’ll find them.
