Gay community at USD

I am a junior in high school and I am starting to get ready to apply to colleges. I am an openly gay male and I am seeking a college near a big city (San Diego) because big cities tend to have larger gay communities. I was wondering what the gay community was like at USD. Is there a big or small gay population at the university? Are students open-minded and accepting of other gay students? Since this is a religious institution, does it have any affect on peoples perspectives of homosexuality? Any responses would be great. Thanks!

Hey icemangervin26! I am a current USD student so I thought I would take a stab at some of your questions!

“I was wondering what the gay community was like at USD. Is there a big or small gay population at the university?”

To be honest I have NO idea… I know there is a gay community, and I THINK its small… but…

“Are students open-minded and accepting of other gay students?”

YES. USD students are very open minded and accepting of gay students.

“Since this is a religious institution, does it have any affect on peoples perspectives of homosexuality?”

Not at all. USD students tend to be very open to different ideas and lifestyles etc.

Thanks I really appreciate you taking your time and answering my questions, it helped a lot!

You’re welcome!

I visited and my brother is a student. The campus is accepting, but not very diverse. There isn’t very much of a gay population, although you wont be alienated just because you are gay.

That being said, I’m sure you can find a gay population at USD or in San Diego.

Thanks for the response! I also have heard that the city of San Diego is very gay friendly and has a large gay population. Does anyone know if this is true???

Yes this is true iceman I was born and raised in SD and most people are gay friendly here, especially in Hillcrest.

I would agree with everything that has been said.

I’ll just make a quick comment. I’m a new USD student and gay. There is a gay presence on campus. The organization PRIDE is the gay alliance on campus. I find the University to be very open minded so far, so don’t worry. The university is also 5-10 minutes away from Hillcrest which is the heart of the gay community in San Diego. It is a very big and centralized community, so you will not feel left out.
