Gay scene at SLO

Hello everyone,

I was happy to stumble upon an article that lists San Luis Obispo as gay-friendly.

[9 Gay-Friendly Cities from Around the World](http://blog.hotelclub.com/gay-friendly-cities/)

I will be transferring in the fall of next year. What other club/organizations are there for the LGBT community on campus? Especially the bear community and BDSM.

Thank you.

There is Spectrum which is like the Gay-Straight alliance I think. I think most of the campus is pretty welcoming towards gay students, but be ware, there are some hick types here that can be pretty racist, sexist, and homophobic.

Thank you! I already contacted them and they tell me SLO, (despite all the bad reputation) is becoming more opened to other ideas. I’m also black which makes it even worse. My boyfriend is also applying to SLO by the way.

hey calpolygay

This is my first year in SLO and I actually work with the Pride Center. Here’s a brief…

The Pride Center is a FABULOUS place to hang out. It’s located right in the hub of activity in the student union building. In the PC are a couple couches, computers, a TV, books/DVDs for checkout, microwave/fridge, supplies etc etc. It is packed 24/7 with all kinds of fun and friendly people :] Hang out in the Pride Center and you’ll find a second place to call home.

Spectrum is Cal Poly’s GSA. They meet once a week and watch movies, play games, have sex workshops [including safe sex and –>BDSM] etc etc.

As far as gays go, there is a gay fraternity, Delta Lambda Phi, that has rush every quarter. They don’t have a house, more like a social club to meet with once a week go out do stuff together whatever.

As far as dining/clubbing there is no specific LGBT establishments in slo, but there are definitely extremely gay-friendly places who do host occasional lgbt events.

While slo isn’t the most exciting lgbt-friendly place [i’m a city girl and used to entire gay communities] it could be a whole lot worse. You’ll find a stronger gay community than you would expect.
