Gay Student Considering Pitt

Hey CC,

I'm an openly gay student considering attending Pitt. I am wondering if Pitt is an accepting campus when it comes to gay/lesbian students, and are there a lot of them there? Also, does Pitt have any organizations for these students?

I also have the option of attending Duquesne (I want to attend a school in the Pittsburgh area as I have a lot of family over there), but I don't really know about going there after reading things like this. Can anyone here shed some light on that school as well?

Thanks!

Son has a straight female friend (first year at Pitt) that has met many new openly gay male friends this year there.

Pitt has the Rainbow Alliance ([Rainbow Alliance ? Home](http://www.pitt.edu/~sorc/rainbow/)) but they don’t seem to “advertise” themselves on campus. I remember going to an event during orientation where all the Pitt clubs set up tables to introduce freshmen to them and I couldn’t find a LBGTQ club. It was later that I did some internet searching that I was able to find out Pitt had such an organization. It looks like they are pretty active though, from their Facebook group.

Pittsburgh is a city, and I’m pretty sure most populous cities in general are accepting of gays. Duquesne has an affiliation so it looks like the administration behaves as such.

Rainbow allowance gets huge funding. lgbt is fairly organized at Pitt.
