Penn State-U Park LGBT Scene

Hello, I am a prospective student to Penn State-U park.

I am a business major and and international student, and everything looks good to me. However, I still worry about whether or not I would fit in to the school and whether or not my sexual orientation would be a problem at the school.

From some of the other threads here it has come to my concern that students enrolling in Penn are already friends from highschool and are not friendly towards new comers. Also I have heard from others that Penn State students are not very accepting of people who are different. This shifted my attitude towards my acceptance from excitement to worry, wondering if there are any LGBT clubs or groups in Penn State that are welcoming to new faces...

I hope there will be students to help explain the situation and ease my nerves.
Thank you very much!!

That’s my post! Anyway, I’m a gay guy who plans on going to PSU and I’m a little worried because of stories i’ve heard but from what i’ve read they have an lgbt community and clubs.

There was some ranking published recently that lists State College PA one of the top 10 gay-friendly university towns. A quick google search should produce an article citing it.

That is a relief to hear! I am a lesbian and was worried that I might have a hard time there… Thanks for letting me know, it’s really helpful!

At a school with 40,000 people, you have no problem finding the kinds of friends you want to associate with. I’m sure there are people at PSU who are, quite frankly, intolerant jerks, but none of them are my friends.

As a freshman at University Park, I’ve been to a few of the LGBTA meeting (unfortunately, I just got too busy), but I can tell you that they’re all very nice people. If any of you ultimately decide to come to Penn State, please feel free to message me.
