Hello, I’m 18 and I dropped out to get my GED in my sophomore year of high school. Due to personal reasons, high school was very difficult for me and I wasn’t able to focus as much on my grades as I should have. I was a smart kid growing up but around that time of my life, I started to slip. I was in honors classes in middle school and even EH (expanded horizons). I scored college level on all of my GED tests but have never taken an actual ACT / SAT. From what I remember, my GPA in high school wasn’t anything to be proud of, and I was wondering if there are any online programs, courses, or anything of that nature to possibly raise my GPA before applying to college, even though I’ve already received a degree. Would it be best to talk to someone from a local college / university? Any advice about what direction I should take would be much appreciated.
I would consider going to your local community college, get 2 years of college courses under your belt with a solid GPA and then transfer. This way as a Junior level transfer, you would not need to take the ACT/SAT and your HS GPA will not be considered.
I agree…go to your local Community College for two years and then transfer to an in-state college.
You also should visit any nearby 4-year colleges and universities that accept students with GEDs. Make appointments with the admissions counselors who are responsible for those applications. They will be able to evaluate your GED scores, and tell you whether or not other testing is required. There could well be different requirements for applicants with GED scores in the college credit range and for applicants whose scores are only in the college ready range.
Congratulations on doing so well on the GED!
