<p>Many coaches are very proud of the academic prowess as well. Williams swimming lists the teams’ average GPAs (women: 3.41) and the academic awards the members have made. The same for most Ivies, Stanford, NESCAC programs.</p>
<p>A good friend of mine who played for Joe Paterno and then the Bengals said that Paterno was more excited when he made Phi Beta Kappa than when he got drafted by a NFL team.</p>
<p>Was this student “admitted” or just “recruited”? How does this student know, in December, that they go “in” to a “Top Ivy”? How does the OP know the SAT scores for sure?</p>
<p>It is my understanding that the NJ HS fencing is generally weak, except for the club fencers who (often begrudgingly) will show up for the HS meets.</p>
<p>To put it another way, while there are a fair number of competitive fencers attending NJ high schools, it would be a stretch to say that these high school programs “produce” competitive fencers.</p>
