can i take university general education requirements at a community college?

typically yes. this is what many people I went to high school with did, during the summers and stuff, taking english comp or world history at the comm. college to get it out of the way. However, I would recommend taking ALL classes that are pre-reqs for your major at your university, esp if there are any science or math pre-reqs, since these can be rather easy at comm. colleges but are designed to weed people out of the major AND prepare them for upper level classes in universities.

Usually, yes.

Some colleges will require you to take a few specific classes though (e.g. an academic writing seminar) that are only offered at that college.

You have to make sure the credits will transfer to whatever college you'll go to afterwards. Some colleges won't take certain community college credits (i.e. some courses in community college aren't deemed good enough for the university to take).
