Gender Gap at Cornell

Hey all,

Just looking at the statistics, I noticed that Human Ecology is populated by girls. If this is the case, does the school tend to admit more males to close the gender gap?

From the statistics, of the 30something people (male) that applied for transfer admissions, only a few (<10) got rejected.

Just a curious thought.

same goes for girls in the engineering college

Wonderful! Bring on more girls!

HumEc is loaded with girls because most of the majors it offers- Design and Environmental Analysis (ergonomics), Human Development, Textiles and Apparel, etc- are ones which are usually of interest to more girls than guys. It's not a stereotype; it's just true. Policy Analysis and Management (PAM), the closest thing CU has to a government major, is in the HumEc school and a lot of guys take it. But flat out, guys arent as interested in most of the other HumEc majors. Of course, as was mentioned, the College of Engineering is mostly guys. It just depends on the school and major, but as for the sum of the student population across the entire school, it's pretty even.

CU has a government major in CAS.
