HumEc PAM

Hi, I'm looking for more information on this program. I've originally been thinking AEM is where my interest is, but public policy has been catching my eye lately so this is seeming appealing. Please answer any questions you can!

How business oriented is it?

What's the difference between PAM and a public policy major?

Is it a respected major or is it jokingly derided like the Hotel School?

I've noticed it is very disproportionally male and female. Is being male an advantage in getting in? (Just curious lol). And on a similar note, is it considered "weird" for men to be in the HumEc school/PAM major?

How does PAM do for job placement, specifically on wall street? (If that turned out to be something I wanted to do later on).

How hard is the actual major/maintaing a high GPA?

Would I be at a significant disadvantage applying RD rather than ED?

And any other info. you have would be great. Thanks so much!

I can answer some of your question:

It’s generally respected, although it shouldn’t matter.

Human Ecology has about 2/3 women and 1/3 men students, but PAM leans more towards 50/50 in terms of gender distribution. Majors like Human Development, Design & Environmental Analysis and Fiber Sciences lean heavily towards female students, hence why Human Ecology has a higher number of women. I don’t think that being male is an advantage, but if there is one, it would be really small.

I haven’t found PAM classes to be that hard. Although Intro to Policy Analysis is known to be a TON of work.
