I'm a very liberal educated European so it's not that obvious for me if there are any policies on living with someone of different sex, so are there?
Are there whole dormitories for only one gender or is it well mixed.
If divided is it by floor, house, room etc?

only for freshman. Upperclassmen can petition to live in a mixed gender suite (but it's cumbersome and usually only approved for seniors where the sexual orientations make roomcest unlikely) or you can go the more popular route and just room separately and then switch with one of the girls/guys in the other suite unofficially.

Thanks for the information. I was just curious because in Germany where residential colleges are most uncommon students usually live in living communities and generally mixed in gender.
Thanks, though.

While rooming groups are usually single sex, no one pays attention to who is sleeping where. Breakups do happen so it's nice to have a room somewhere else if they do.

I wasn't necessarily referring to couples. I just think as long as it's everybody's individual decision there is no problem in living with someone of different sex.
But it's just as I expected - system is different but nobody cares - that's cool, too.
