general chances?

Hi -- I'm 15 and a rising junior, and I've just started seriously thinking about college this summer and getting really frightened that I don't have what it takes to get into a good college! I haven't taken the SATs yet and I know that's a crucial piece of information, but I was hoping you all could take a look at my grades and extracurriculars (I'm especially worried that I don't have good ECs) and give me an idea of whether I even have a chance of getting into some good colleges such as Amherst, Bowdoin, Bucknell, Colgate, Wesleyan, Vassar, etc. or even an Ivy League.. be gentle on me though as I'm freaking out a bit about it! I know my extracurriculars may be a bit crap, especially since I'm awful at sports so don't participate in them at school :(

GPA: 4.0
my school is Waldorf and doesn't offer AP courses or weighted GPA but I have honors credit in more than half my classes..

PSAT: 214
that was from sophomore year -- we're taking it again this fall and I'm studying now in the hopes of improving by 15 or 20 points

Extracurriculars/achievements:

Recorder and flute - around 8 years - this is my main EC
-School orchestra for 2 years so far
-Played in the orchestra for my school's Messiah performance at xmas; also instrumental Messiah soloist
-Have volunteered on several occasions to perform at local home for the elderly/disabled
-Will most likely get NYSSMA certification for flute next spring
-Competing in county-wide talent contest on recorder this month as well as youth music competition next spring.. we'll see if i place..

Dance - around 6 years
-I'm not serious about dance but I do dance a few times during the week during the school year.. no achievements here though :(

School yearbook committee - I do the illustrations - 2 years so far

Volunteer work
-aforementioned playing for elderly/disabled
-will hopefully be volunteering for a week at local community for developmentally delayed young people this month
-40+ hours of various community service projects per year (it's required at my school)

Work experience
-1.5 years working at local caf

Your ECs are decent-good.
Grades are good, and colleges can’t hold it against you if you have no APs. They want you to challenge yourself at YOUR school.

Your PSAT is also very respectable.

However, since you don’t really have a school or SAT/ACT scores…its kind of hard to tell.

As a rising junior I had basically no idea about college, I think you’re good.

Bucknell: Match
Colgate: High match

Everyone else is a reach. Get yourself a safety!

Honestly it’s too early to chance you now… But you’re definitely on the right track! If you focus in on one or two ECs and really excel in them, and you get an SAT of at least 2140 (the SAT equivalent of your PSAT score), you’ll have a good chance at any of those schools.

Best of luck!
