I was hoping someone might be able to give me some advice about General Chemistry I. I need the class for my chosen major. However, it has been close to 10 year since I took college algebra. Would it be possible for me to take gen chem I and pass it with an A considering my weakened math skills. Or should I try and retake college algebra then take gen chem I. Now when I took college algebra I did pass it with an A, not sure if that makes a difference. I was told by my Biology teacher that I should be able to take and pass the class. I'm just not sure if that is true or not.

Pick up the textbook the class will be using and see if you can understand some of the math concepts presented in the opening chapters. If you can learn and comprehend that without too much trouble, you should be fine. If not you should probably retake college algebra

The math we did in chem was extremely basic. The concepts would sometimes confuse me, but the math that went along with it was usually just multiplication, division, addition, etc. Nothing too advanced. I don’t think it would be necessary to retake algebra, especially since a calculator will do all of this for you.
