I have a general question on what APs I should take which would be most favored by selective schools.

I am currently a sophomore and I took 2 APs so far; APUSH and APCalAB which were this year. I would like to limit to 3 APs as a junior and 4 APs as senior. I know I will be taking APCalcBC and APBio for sure as a junior.

My question is should I take AP lit as Junior year and APComp as Senior or

should I take go the History route for which the choices are AP European Hist, AP Micro/Macro, APGov, AP Economics and AP Psych.

If you suggest the History route what APs in the above history list are most favored.

Please assume the same interest level for both english and history and I do not know my career choice yet.

Here is the summary:

Currently Sophomore Year:
AP Calc AB
APUSH

Junior year:
AP Calc BC
AP Bio
AP English or AP History?

Senior Year:
AP Stats
AP Physics
AP English or AP History?
AP English or AP History?

You guys were always there for me. Thanks a bunch in advance.

Which AP History are you talking about? World or Euro?

I think you should take AP Euro and AP English Comp for junior year (it’s easier than AP English Lit) along with your other listed APs.

I think you should take AP English Lit and AP Gov for senior year along with your other listed APs.

If your colleges don’t give additional credit for both AP English classes, then don’t take one of them (check to see, many schools limit AP English credit.)

I want to take only one, eithier AP in english track or AP in history track not both, saying that which one would you think that highly selective colleges like. Second Question : If the answer is AP history track then which of the above history AP’s is good to take.

Does your school call such things…AP English “track” or AP history “track”?

I’ve never heard that before, and what would be the reason to stick to “one track”? Why not take one AP English class junior year and one AP History class senior year? Wouldn’t that make you look more well-rounded?

Sorry, I must have confused you. All I am asking is whether for highly selective schools is it better to take English APs or History APs if I want to stick with just one subject?

I don’t think one is particularly preferred over the other, but I do question the wanting to stick with just one AP subject. I think the more well-rounded the better, particularly if you haven’t decided on a major – take AP English one year, one AP history the following year.

For what its worth, I think some colleges don’t give AP credit for both Literature and Language, so if you are determined to make AP English and AP History and “either/or” thing, you might get more college credit with 2 AP History classes. At our school AP Euro Civ and APUSH are the most popular – not many kids take AP World.
