I’m currently a Junior in high school and wanted to know the path to becoming a genetic engineer?
I know I need basic Biology/Chemistry, but what else will I have to get in order to be successful and well prepared?
“Genetic engineer” isn’t really an occupation. Genetic engineering is a broad term for the techniques used by molecular biologists, biochemists, medical researchers, and bioengineers to alter the genomes of organisms for a variety of purposes. Consequently, this entails studying molecular/cell biology or chemistry, or possibly bioengineering. You should try to make sure you have a good foundation in biology, chemistry, and math/physics if you intend to study one of these fields.
@AuraObscura I’m taking AP Calc AB, AP chem, and physics right now, AP Calc BC and AP Bio next year.
Then it sounds like you’re doing the right things. Doing well in those classes will be good preparation for studying those topics at the college level.
