I know a lot of people that go to Columbia are from New York (both the city and the state) but does anyone have stats for how many people are from specific regions of the United States (New Englad, Midwest, South, etc)?

good question...anyone know how many international or foriegn students apply as well?

I know that the second largest group comes from California. Internationally, the largest representation comes from Singapore. I saw this somewhere on the Columbia website, I think, or else in one their publications.

It's in their FAQ, but only has teh top 5 states for the College and the top 5 foreign countries for Fu.
So I'm from a rural county in North Carolina and no one has ever applied to Columbia from this school, that I know of, and probably not even this county. Would that mean that my chances would be a little bit higher? I mean, it would be the final nudge to push me over or would it just be something nice for them?

From the college site. Don't know how many apply, however:

What is the percentage of students of color on campus?

30% of our undergraduate student body identify themselves as students of color. Diversity has long been recognized as one of Columbias hallmarks. Most recently, in 2003, Black Enterprise Magazine ranked Columbia as the top Ivy League university for African American students.

What is the percentage of international students on campus?

Approximately 10% of our undergraduate student body identify themselves as foreign or international.

Can someone give me a link to the faq (I don't know why I'm having so much trouble finding it...)?

A little late, I know, but couldn’t resist saying that if you can’t locate the FAQ on Columbia’s website, perhaps you shouldn’t be applying there!

“A little late” that’s an understatement. Those posters probably entered college in the fall of '06 or '07 and graduated this past May.

I know this is a very old thread, but for anyone who might be currently interested, there are some stats at this link: http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/sites/default/files/classprofile.pdf According to these stats, 17% of the class of 2015 is international. My son just started as a freshman and says that the international presence is very tangible. Among his friends already are students from China, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
