Geographical Location/Chances

Hey, I'm new to this board and I have already submitted my application.

I am a valedictorian with an unweighted 4.0, pretty good EC's, 2180 on my SAT's and 760, 780, and 680 on SAT II Lit, US History, and Math 1, respectively. I also have 5 honors/AP classes throughout high school. I think that I have good essays and my reccomendations are really good as well.

First off, what do you think my chances of getting in are, but what I am really wondering is if geographical location can affect admission significatly.

I am from a small (2,500) town in Western Montana and my long essay was focussed on the stregths and weaknesses of living in such a small town.

Also, does Stanford research my high school to find out that there are few EC's and that there are even less opportunities for AP's.

Any information is much appreciated.

It's your job and the job of your HS guidance counselor to let Stanford know the specifics about your school. My school has NO ECs and NO APs, but is still EXTREMELY difficult and this is something that my counselor has to explain.

Affect your application significantly? Probably not... But it will have an impact. It could possibly make you a more interesting candidate in the eyes of the admissions committee than someone with your exact stats living in Palo Alto.

You will know in a couple of months-- Don't stress over it now.
