Anyone already accepted? Or still waiting? I was accepted last month and already cleared my to-do list and paid everything.

Waiting on my boyfriend’s admission decsion… 2.7 GPA also geography major still just says application received. KILLING ME.

UPDATE: Seeing as theres so many geography applicants obsessing over their application status (not), i’ll update my findings anyways. E-mailed admissions advising today and was told another round of admissions will be going out very soon and they will continue sending admissions through April 15th since they know theres a May 1st deadline for committing to schools. She also said to keep an eye on BroncoDirect over the next few weeks— as if we all haven’t been obsessively refreshing as it is.

I know this thread has been looked at a bunch even tho theres no comments, so you’re welcome.

good luck!

Admitted early February with GIS emphasis/option, planning to minor in environmental geog.
3.4 gpa. Are y’all out of the school “zone”? Perhaps that’s why it’s lagging.

I’m out if school zone too and got in the first round

I’m from down in San Diego and I got accepted Feb 4th. He’s applying from the same school and still nothing. Lower GPA than mine though… which would be my guess as to why the lag? I dunno

Might be the gpa, but looking at the amount of geography transfer applicants from last year and the admittance rate, it’s relatively not selective.

It’s great to see other geography majors on here, people usually scoff at it. It’s quite a marketable degree

I looked at that too… .between fall 2012 and fall 2013 it was literally a 12-16% denial rate. Maybe its just the acceptance in waves thing? maybe they accepted the highest GPAs first and are waiting for the students to turn in transcripts by their deadline? then they release more? lol ive definitely made up how the system works in my head at this point.

@skalavera definitely!! I almost did the GIS option as well-- i got my certification in it while in community college but i decided on the environmental option to be more well rounded. Very excited to start classes! I was looking at the listings of courses for the major and i literally didnt see one class i wasn’t interested in taking.

Right on, have you been able to work as a gis tech? I’m looking at a minor in the environmental sector and/or marketing. I just found out not too long ago that the founder of Esri went to CPP. Which is pretty bad ass.

no way? thats sick!! and I honestly haven’t tried… I did a 96 hour internship for one of my GIS classes that allowee me to work on gis tech type stuff for a company and I also did a project for a non-profit but it wasn’t anything like doing GIS for the NWS or anything (I WISH!! visited the national weather service and saw the gis they do there-- so dope) A few of my past teachers have e-mailed me job opportunities but I actually already work full time for a company (not geography/gis related whatsoever) so I never jumped on those opportunities… also they paid less than where I’m at lol. Im definitely excited for the opportunities being a Cal Poly student will bring.

So what factors pulled you guys to Pomona?

Just talking to some of my professors and peers from school (one is transferring this fall also to Pomona as a geog major) , many companies prefer CPP to ucsb cos of the “hands on” experience. So it’s pretty encouraging and exciting.

Honestly? My sister went there for one semester while i was still in high school and i visited the campus and was like… yup. i wanna go here. Also, you can get a BS from cal poly without all the chemistry and physics and calculus. I’m fairly certain the only other school in the state that will give you a BS in geography without all those extras is CSU East Bay (also applied there and got accepted but since i got accepted to CPP no thanks :P) I couldnt even transfer to SDSU for a geography BS without at least one year of each of those classes (possibly more-- not sure) So, i guess laziness? haha no im kidding but I guess I just like the idea of a polytechnic school (that just sounds fancy) and a BS versus a BA without wasting away at a community college for even longer getting through chem and calc and physics etc. How about you?

@skalavera yeah see all my teachers that I spoke to said the same thing. That was a huge determinant also. So excited! My BF applied for the GIS program also. fingers crossed!

For the exact same reasons. If I wanted to apply to sdst or ucsb, I’d have to wait another year. Which was not ideal cos I had already held out from transferring the year prior for financial reasons. My advisor put it to me this way, if I waited another year, I’d get my BS one year later which is a loss of a (roughly) 45+k salary and experience.

damn, that advisor laid it down haha. truer words have not been spoken. Im glad im not the only one with the same thought process!

All my geography professors have been legit. The most down to earth people I’ve come across, pun indeed intended ha

hahah, i guess its a geography thing cuz my teachers were all cool as well. Im actually leaving tomorrow on a 4 day geography camping trip/field study to death valley with my coolest geography teachers. STOKEDDDD. im pretty sure it was the best choice i could make for my last community college class.

It’s definitely a geography thing.
Sweet, I’m assuming it’s for spring break…?
Our geog Club on campus is going to Chinatown in LA tomorrow
