Since my Freshman year I have been thinking about what I want to do in College and I have came up with the idea of being a geologist. I would rather work outside and im comfortable traveling the world to remote places. I am also a certified Scuba Diver so I would love to do something in the geology field that has to do with the Ocean. I realize that most Geology majors are employed by Oil Compaines and that doesn't really intrest me so if someone could list some careers and corresponding majors (in the Earth/Natural Science Field) that would be other than working for an Oil Company.

My grades are decent going into my Senior Year i have a wieghted 3.7 and I took two Ap Courses my Junior year, History an Biology. I Aced the History with a 5 and got a 3 on Bio.
My SATs are another story. I got a 1740, and I can definetly do much better. I had a 650 in Critical Reading, a 570 in Math (I can definetely get that up to a 600+), and a 520 on writing which totally surprised me since I did very well in my English Class this year. So it is realistic that I can bring that up a lot. I took subject tests in U.S History (730) and Math II Precalc (600). My Community Service is ok but ill probably do more my senior year. I know I can get two very good recommedations, one from my English Teacher and one, from my Ap History teacher, but I am not sure how much those can affect my application. I am also a member of the National Honors Society and I have played sports all my High School Career. Lettered in Football 11,12, Wrestling, 12 and Lacrosse 10, 11, 12.

Schools I like- (Found them through the 2010 Fiske Guide and they all have a strong program in Geology/Natural Science.)

Boston University
Bucknell
Columbia University (This seems like a super reach school, but I plugged in my Sats scores on a college board college search and it popped up.)
Denison University
Franklin and Marshall College
Gettysbury
Ithaca College
LSU

If anyone can give me feedback on my major intrests, schools, and the chance i would have at getting in to them, I would be greatly appreciated! Thank You for reading this long thread.
