At the intro level, the majority of physical geology courses are not math intensive and mostly incorporate the most rudimentary chemistry concepts such as the definition of a molecule. Be warned that an intro geology course will require you to memorize a good number of terms and be able to visualize macroscopic phenomenon.

Marine biology, botany, geology then astronomy is how I would rank the four from most science/math intensive to least science/math. My son took marine biology and botany and there is a lot of memorization needed also.

Actually, ucbalumnus, I am applying for transfer to USC, not SDSU, and those are the courses that I can take next semester to fulfill USC’s science G.E. requirement. :)

Thanks for the replies so far, guys. Would love to hear more from others that may have taken these classes. Pros, cons, all that.

However, that does indicate that Biology 250 and Geology 100 are courses designed for students majoring in those subjects, while Biology 115 and Astronomy 101 are not (at least not for students major in those subjects at SDSU). So I would guess that the latter two are less difficult courses.

^Good point, but it does seem odd. Wouldn’t an astronomy major have to take astronomy 101? I can’t see why they wouldn’t, unless I’m missing something here.
