Geometry Honors

Hi,

Some context: I have always been at the "top of my class (not to toot my own horn, but a fact)… I got my course placements, and I have (for the core classes) bio honors, geometry honors, and English 1 accelerated. I am pretty sad because three other kids coming from my school have algebra 2. (everyone else is tking geometry honors and some are taking algebra 1 or geometry regular). It is worth noting that my path would be Geo Honors → Alg2/Trig → AP Calc AB and AP computer science in the same year → AP Statistics or AP Calculus. Algebra 2 honors students have to take Claculus before takign the AP as well. Would this decrease my cahnces of going to a top school?

Some context:

I am a competitive fencer outside of school and I directly hope to be recruited by an NCAA team. I am top 10 in my region and ranked 30th overall nationwide for my age and event. I also am part of the speech and debate team, and I hope to be president in my sophomore year. I used to do Taekwondo and achieved a redbelt before quitting due to family issues. Additionally, I am joining the robotics team and hopefully student council coming in as a freshman.

No

If you have not had exposure to geometry, there should be no expectation that you would be placed out of geometry. Taking geometry as a freshman is the “normal” course for advanced students. And it sounds like your HS wants to ensure that all students have a solid base and not accelerate needlessly.

On another note, the site is called College Confidential, so you should not post details that are too specific to your identity. To that end, I edited out the name of your HS.

You are on a great path! Work hard, get help when you need it and you will do great!!
