Hi CC! I am incoming freshman to high school who is currently skipping geometry over the summer at a near by summer school. In my area or high school we usually go to algebra 2 and we need to take the placement test. In the past, I knew that we need a 70% or above to go to regular algebra 2. However, I have been hearing rumors about needing a 90% or above to pass the placement test for regular math. Has anyone ever heard about this or is just me? Also for people who took the geometry placement exam, can you please tell me some resources and the difficulty of this. Thanks a lot.
Ps. Since this is my first post after joining cc, you can correct me if i put this thread in the wrong area.
None of us know your school district’s policies, so we can’t say. You should email your math teacher or the director of your summer school. If you want to practice geometry, try borrowing a textbook and making sure you know how to do everything in each unit. If you don’t, do practice problems until you do.
“Bump” is just a nonsense word, posted to “bump” your thread to the top of the post list. You don’t have to do it very often; trust that people will find your question and answer.
Like Vinnatan said: we don’t even know what test you’re talking about. Ask the people who deal with it regularly–your teachers and counselors.
But I will tell you that in my school, you need a grade in the 90’s on our placement test to skip a course.
We’re not aiming for mere passing; we want mastery or something close to it.
But there’s no national or state standard; it absolutely depends on your school.
A resource I would suggest is www.regentsprep.org . It’s intended to prepare kids for the NY State Regents exams, but is a pretty thorough rundown of a typical high school class in any of the subjects it offers.
