The D of a friend is interested in George Fox University in Portland Oregon. She's an outstanding student, a rising senior, interested in filmmaking & drama. Anyone have any info about this school?

I'm from Oregon, the wikipedia description sounds pretty accurate from what I've heard about GFU.

D's young AP chem teacher is a George Fox grad who speaks glowingly of the tight-knit campus and individual attention. She is very, very bright and was challenged by their excellent science offerings.

I know two people who attended this college. One of them has gone on to be an attorney for the State of Washington in the Indian Gaming department and the other went on to be a very successful home builder. They felt the quality of education was very high and the atmosphere was quite conservative. The campus in Newberg, Oregon is quite pretty--but one does have to be able to cope with rain!

Living in the Portland area, we have known many kids who have attended, and are attending, George Fox. Although I really can't provide any details, those I have talked to have all loved it there.

Thanks for all the input. I myself was very put off by this, from the wikipedia article, "faculty members and staff are required to sign a statement professing faith in traditionally Christian doctrines." To me all it says is that Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and athiests need not apply... seems kind of a limited world-view for a college - but hey, it's not my D who's interested so I'll just mind my own little business & pass on your positive comments.

Yes, you are correct, faculty and staff are required to sign a document professing faith in Jesus Christ as the son of God. They also promise not to drink alcohol, use tobacco, or illegal drugs.
STUDENTS are NOT required to sign this document, but it does give insight about the purpose and beliefs of the school - which they are very upfront about. Not for everyone, but if it's what you're looking for, the education is good.
