After being accepted to her top choice school, my daughter didnt get any scholarships or financial aid, making it impossible to attend. She was crushed.
We are visiting several schools that she is accepted to and that we can afford but she is not excited or invested.
Now she is talking about Grand Canyon University. She says she likes the “vibe” and that kids on the Class of '24 page seem cool. She wants to include it on our upcoming visits.
My husband and I are hesitant, about its legitimacy and also how a degree from GCU will be perceived, and the fact that it is Christian (daughter is a self-proclaimed atheist).
What are others experiences/perceptions of GCU? Talking points to why it is not a good plan?T
Thanks!

I’m agnostic and I adjusted in the first couple months to my Catholic high school, so I don’t think the religion argument will work. What will work is the dubious legitimacy of GCU.
From a Google search (I’d never heard of GCU before), it’s comparable to a community college in terms of reputation. Tell her that depending on her field and company, she could encounter some ribbing about going to a mostly online university.
For you, I don’t think it’s a good idea to pay for a visit. They have a small but pretty campus, and I think that might make up her mind on wanting to attend.
GCU is Christian? I thought it was Buddhist. But from what i heard, its mostly online.
I know someone who went (in person) for dance and was employed in their field after graduating. My daughter is an avowed atheist but was interested in a few Jesuit schools. What is the proposed major? For some, a degree is just a degree.
