Which school is better, especially for studying pre-med?

GWU is a much, much better school and is also more residential, where GMU is more of a commuter school. That said, GM does have some pros. GW is notoriously one of the most expensive schools in the nation, and GMU will be much cheaper. (I believe it’s a VA state school, so if you’re a VA resident that goes double). It does have a surprisingly strong economics department, but I haven’t heard the same for its premed stuff.

Mason is a much better value than the George Washington University.

Students are equally smart.

GW’s tuition is not worth it for pre-med. GW’s tuition is the highest among DC universities, but GW is far from the best school in the area. Go for GW only if you have money to burn, get a scholarship, or really want to be in DC for government related internships.

GW’s Medical School has a very good clinical medicine program and would be a great option for med school, but for undergraduate save the money and go to GMU.

Both are solid schools. Both offer good educations, but the experience of going to one vs. the other would be very different.
