George Washington University Transfer (Fall 2012)

I was searching for a thread for transfer applicants for the upcoming fall semester, but couldn't seem to locate one!

If there is already one, please post a link. :)

Anyone a transfer applicant here? For what year?

I would be entering as a junior from NVCC.

Anyway, decisions will be out in about a month!! Waiting is definitely the hard part.

I’m a freshman transferring into sophomore year from GMU! I’m majoring in communication so its nothing as competitive as the international affairs. Regardless, I’m nervous whether I will be accepted, but I’ve heard GW has a pretty high transfer acceptance rate. Good Luck to everyone!

If you look at their datasheets, the acceptance rate for transfers is actually the same as undergraduates. I don’t know if that’s higher than other places or not, though. good luck!

It can vary dramatically by year. In 2009, when I transferred they told us it was something like 9-11% for that year, which was unusually low. That may have been just for the Elliott School, I don’t remember. It was 27% for transfers vs 32% for all in 2010.

Best of luck all!

It’s a longshot for me to get accepted, but I would love to transfer to GW! Do you guys know when exactly we will hear back?

When I called a few weeks ago to talk to admissions they told me we would hear back middle of May/beginning of June.

Thanks! Gosh, that’s a long wait. I guess I should be busying myself with schoolwork, but this transfer stuff is always in the back of my mind! I’ll be glad when everything is settled.

I absolutely agree with ldivine. I was told the transfer rate really isn’t something we should go by, since it really depends on how many seats are available in that specific graduating class.

For example, I would be entering as a junior; the more students of the 2014 class leave GWU for whatever reason (transferring, dropping out, etc.), then the more transfer applicants they can accept, therefore a higher transfer rate.

I hope that makes sense. Best of luck! =)

I’m a freshman trying to transfer for sophomore year as well! I applied to the exercise science program in the school of public health, which has a separate application process… I’m really hoping that doesn’t mean it’s more competitive or that there’s less space available. I currently go to the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and pretty much hate it here. GWU is the first thing I’ve been excited about in a long time, hope we all get to hear good news soon!

What are your stats like and what is your intended major?

I’m currently at NVCC and going to be applying for Spring 2013.

im a freshman and have a 3.7 gpa with a few EC’s (part-time job, clubs, sports team). majoring in communication in the columbia college of arts & sciences. if i’m accepted i’d eventually try to get into the school of media and public affairs. i’m really nervous though, i’m afraid i won’t get in :(

Quick question about scholarships from GWU.

Are all applicants automatically considered for scholarships during the application process?? There wasn’t a separate form or anything to be considered for them, correct?

Thank you!

Correct. You are considered for the ones you are eligible for. (Like a non-NMF wont be considered for the NMF scholarship; a non-minority wont be considered for the minority type one; a non-SEAS wont be eligible for the SEAS etc etc)

I see.

Thanks for your reply!

I guess there aren’t that many GWU transfer students on CC! It’s almost time for decisions and no one’s on here yapping away like other transfer threads! lol

Regardless, best of luck to you all! I hope we have the highest transfer acceptance rate for this year! =)

I’m also applying as a transfer; I already got into American University with honors, so now I’m patiently (sort of!) waiting for GWU to reply. My college GPA was 3.94 (with 36 credits) and my HS GPA was 3.96, both unweighted. My major extracurricular is full-time employment for about 6 months (I’m not currently attending college).

I also applied to Georgetown but I’m not as confident of getting in. Overall, the most important thing for me is financial aid, as all of these schools are great anyway.

Anyone know when decisions will be out?

^ I’ve been in touch with the admissions office for a few reasons, and they threw around a vague “mid-May”. I’m hoping to have notice before my deposit deadlines at other schools, but it’s looking a little doubtful…

Thejosher - Try emailing your other schools and asking for an extension on when you have to let them know if you’ll be attending. My backup school told me it really wasn’t a big deal if I told them a few weeks late, so maybe you’ll get lucky too!

Mid-May?? I was hoping first week of May…
