Georgetown Blessed Me

So I got accepted into Georgetown University, I got accepted into the Community Scholars Program that will let me go there a month earlier during the summer and receive a 1,700 scholarship and I got a full ride at Georgetown! Full ride! My family do not have to pay a dime, I was afraid that I would have to at least take 3,000 in loans a year but I do not!

I doubt any college will be able to match this! Basically a 57,060 scholarship with everything added up (all the grants and scholarships). I thought Georgetown tuition + room and board was lower than 57,060? Am I getting some money left over? Hopefully!

Just some inspirational advice to others, keep your head up. East Coast and some other states should be receiving their mail today. Best of luck, and if anyone who talked with me before knows my stats wasn't as good as the other "4.0 gpas, 2200 SATs, 32 ACT and 30+ clubs" but I had determination and a hook(everyone has a hook).

Thank you Georgetown for a free education at one of the nation's top school!

That’s so amazing!!! Congrats! I bet you’re very, very happy!
Good luck at Georgetown next year!

Oh blessed one – what was thy hook?

My hook is just that I lived in poverty and my mother died during my senior year.

I am so sorry for your loss! Your mother would be very proud of you and I know you will do great in her honor. Congrats on your acceptance Darryl

On your question about Georgetown’s tuition + room and board being less than 57k - it probably is. Estimated financial cost includes an estimate of the cost of books, travel costs (i think) and personal expenses. Although I could be wrong, and maybe their tuition went up by about $4,000 for next year. When I got my package from UChicago it was estimated that it would cost me about $60k a year, and my financial need was based of that number instead of the sum of tuition and room and board.

I’m extremely sorry for your loss :(

I am so sorry – that’s a terrible thing to have happen, especially in a year filled with so much stress. As a mom, this is how I think of it: your mother would have been so proud of you, and in a way, she helped you get into a fabulous school. Good luck.

So happy for you. You are truly someone the system was designed to aid. I hope you truly enjoy your years at Georgetown…

congratulations!!!

Best of luck to you Darryl…Pay it forward! :)

Congrats Darryl, from one blessed guy to another. GTown blessed me a lot too… Financial aid package of $50,000, no loans. Family has to pay $7,000, but that’s the same price that local state schools charge anyway. I was waitlisted last year, but tried again this year. And it’s true- everyone has a hook… if you don’t, you can always make one yourself!

Congratulations Darryl! I know I don’t know you, but I am so proud of you! I am certain that your mother would be as well! I hope that you enjoy all of your blessings and being a Hoya!

I got good news from Georgetown today, too! $44,000 a year, which isn’t too shabby considering there are no loans to pay back. I understand how ecstatic you are as I am the SAME exact way right now =)

See you next year!! =D

Georgetown didn’t bless me today. No aid ( willing to pay full )
But got the waitlist.
